Summer News

Hope you are having a lovely Summer enjoying time with the kids, family or your loved ones wherever you have been or are going.

July and August have been a busy few months with work and I am enjoying the freedom that my new home studio brings so we have been getting away most weekends.. I'll tell you more below!

Studio 61 Printing business has been keeping us busy and I've enjoyed being out and about on the road meeting new customers and delivering their prints and any originals that we have scanned. (We post work out too)

Purple and Grey is in holiday mode but our Art Group did meet at Tansley Village Hall last week where I ran a workshop.  We have a lovely friendly bunch of artists of all abilities and have many laughs.  Our next Art Group is on Wednesday 27 Sept 10.30-12.30 and it's £4.95 with lots of free tea and coffee.  New members welcome

Purple and Grey have lots of Autumn/Winter events planned including networking at Beechenhill Farm, The Big Draw at Creswell Crags as well as private consultations.  All info is on our website where you can sign up to newsletter. (for those that don't know I am Purple!)

The Tractor Shed at Riber

One thing I am loving is the ability to get out and about so when a regular customer wanted to purchase more artwork for her holiday cottages I was able to take a selection along and have a sneaky peek before it opened for business.  I am pleased to say that three originals are now hanging in The Tractor Shed at Riber which is a fab romantic hideaway, a well behaved dog is welcome and is now open for bookings!

Commissions - I love working to commission and am now taking bookings to get stuck into when I return from holiday..I'll tell you about that in a minute.  Prices start from £80-£800 whether it be a painting of your home, a favourite view or special place in oils or watercolours.  (Gift Vouchers available)  Happy to chat more and work to your requirements.  Just email me please

Where you can view my work - now updated on my website

New family member - please welcome Freddy the VW Camper.  We have been sneaking off in him whenever we can so if you've not seen him over on my INSTAGRAM  then here he is.

As you can see Bruno loves him and joins us on every trip

We are still keeping Stan the Van as he is my daily drive and also part of the family.

Holidays - we are heading off to Cornwall soon and I will be back in the studio Monday 18th September.  I hope it as hot as when we were there in June but just to be on the beach and by the sea whatever the weather suits me fine.  I intend to do lots of reading but am also taking my paints and drawing box and hope to do a few paintings sat on the beach looking across St Ive's Bay

I will be checking emails as I'm nosey!

I'll try and post onto my Facebook page  but mainly I prefer Instagram now as no politics, moaning or horrible cruelty to animals photos!

My Instagram is karinagoodmanstudio61

Anyway, hope you enjoy the rest of Summer and look forward to catching up with you soon where I can hopefully tell you more about an exciting Christmas Commission with a local company!

See you soon

Take care love Karina and Bruno xxxxx

What do I do?

I bumped into an old NHS work colleague a few days ago and was asked what did I do now as it had been over 20 years?  I found myself trying to explain, conscious of not rabbiting on.

So today after meeting some lovely clients I have spent the afternoon updating my website with less text and more images to try and sum up what I do do and make things simpler.

I work and absorb info so much better visually and even my shopping list has some doodles rather than words

I thought I'd share some with you

all links are on my website

Have a lovely weekend and if I can help you with any of the above please email me

Summer at Sennen Cove

I've many happy memories of lazy sunny days on the beach at Sennen Cove in Cornwall with our friends and all the kids enjoying the freedom this brings not to mention the surfing as they grew older.

Last week I had a lovely family day at Sennen when it was a scorcher and upon my return I felt inspired to capture this beautiful place with it's vast expanse of golden sand and bright blue sea.

I mainly used a palette knife with the exception of the beach so there's lots of paint to dry!

It is an oil on board approx 10' x 8" and is now available to purchase as it is or I can arrange professional framing.  It is not as yet on my website

Enquiries welcome to karinagoodman@icloud.com

Hope you have a good Summer and hope to catch up soon

I still work to commission on house portraits, favourite view and book illustration
so please email me to chat more

Summer paintings and plans

I'm now back after a scorching hot week in Cornwall where evenings were spent watching some amazing sunsets

It so hot that I went in the sea to cool off without my wetsuit for the first time in about 18 years (wimp).  We had an encounter with a seal swimming nearby (don't know who was more surprised) and Bruno enjoyed cooling off in rock pools and splashing about in the sea.  He's getting quite brave and we had a job to get him out of the sea but it all got too much for him at Sennen Cove.

Whilst I was in Cornwall we visited the lovely Atishoo Designs Gallery who have stocked my work for a few years and now have a new range of my coastal oils and greeting cards.

Charlestown was used as a Poldark and Pirates of the Caribbean film location but sadly neither Mr Turner or Mr Depp were spotted.

I am also pleased to announce that two pieces of my artwork were selected for The Earth Pathways 2018 Diary and having received my diary just before I went away it was lovely to see Mermaid's Pool and Moonlit Horizon in this publication.  It is so much more than a diary, full of inspirational words and images.

Before I went away I worked on a new oil painting using just a palette knife.  Despite all the heat over the last few weeks this is still not dry as I used lots of thick paint and texture.
This is an oil on a 40 cm box canvas now for sale in a white wood tray frame

My new studio location under the trees is definitely having affect on my work and more tree paintings are planned.

For the first time ever I now had time to take part in The Buxton Spa Prize and I was allocated to paint the view from Cliff Steps. The viaduct and The Dome dominated the landscape so I chose to feature just those in my morning mist interpretation

My week in Cornwall has inspired me to work on some new coastal ones and with another trip to the coast planned in a few weeks I know the sea and our wonderful coastline will be the subject of my Summer painting days in the studio.

Hope you have a good Summer and hope to catch up soon

I still work to commission on house portraits, favourite view and book illustration
so please email me to chat more

a "new surroundings" inspired painting

I'm enjoying being surrounded by trees in my new studio and I knew this would have an influence on my work.  With family commitments, two Derbyshire Open Arts Events and Purple and Grey work I've not painted as much as I would have liked lately.

For the first time I have got involved in the Buxton Spa Prize seeing it not as a competition but as a way to get me painting something different.  I haven't got a competitive bone in my body so I was quite happy to get my canvas stamped, choose a number and being given a location to paint.  Today I delivered the framed oil on canvas.  I will keep you posted when the preview is.

On my return the sun was out and family were out working so I had a lovely few hours pottering down in my studio under a canopy of trees with shafts of sunlight dancing on the decking.  I'd got a canvas I'd been building up with layers and textures and I felt inspired.

Using just a palette knife and my fingers, with trees and sunlight in mind,  I've been working on this impasto oil on the 40 cm box canvas today and ended up wearing most of it.

Not sure if it's finished as yet and will take months to dry!

Keep you posted

new paintings, plans and photos

Seems a while since I've blogged but had a busy month including a lovely and inspiring family holiday to Robin Hood's Bay but managed to paint several new ones

Also finally sorted new studio out.  I'd collected all sorts of stuff over the 11 years of having retail premises but can finally see the floor and am now getting so much more done.  I do miss catching up with customers but my old premises at Holloway will be opening as a Cafe this Summer so be good to meet up there for coffee and catch up

I enjoyed the recent sunny spell and managed to paint outside which was fab.

Bruno loves the new studio and lives the life of riley!

Thought I'd share some new paintings which are not even on the website yet (another job on my "to do" list) and will be also be available as a giclee limited edition fine art print
