Summer paintings and plans

I'm now back after a scorching hot week in Cornwall where evenings were spent watching some amazing sunsets

It so hot that I went in the sea to cool off without my wetsuit for the first time in about 18 years (wimp).  We had an encounter with a seal swimming nearby (don't know who was more surprised) and Bruno enjoyed cooling off in rock pools and splashing about in the sea.  He's getting quite brave and we had a job to get him out of the sea but it all got too much for him at Sennen Cove.

Whilst I was in Cornwall we visited the lovely Atishoo Designs Gallery who have stocked my work for a few years and now have a new range of my coastal oils and greeting cards.

Charlestown was used as a Poldark and Pirates of the Caribbean film location but sadly neither Mr Turner or Mr Depp were spotted.

I am also pleased to announce that two pieces of my artwork were selected for The Earth Pathways 2018 Diary and having received my diary just before I went away it was lovely to see Mermaid's Pool and Moonlit Horizon in this publication.  It is so much more than a diary, full of inspirational words and images.

Before I went away I worked on a new oil painting using just a palette knife.  Despite all the heat over the last few weeks this is still not dry as I used lots of thick paint and texture.
This is an oil on a 40 cm box canvas now for sale in a white wood tray frame

My new studio location under the trees is definitely having affect on my work and more tree paintings are planned.

For the first time ever I now had time to take part in The Buxton Spa Prize and I was allocated to paint the view from Cliff Steps. The viaduct and The Dome dominated the landscape so I chose to feature just those in my morning mist interpretation

My week in Cornwall has inspired me to work on some new coastal ones and with another trip to the coast planned in a few weeks I know the sea and our wonderful coastline will be the subject of my Summer painting days in the studio.

Hope you have a good Summer and hope to catch up soon

I still work to commission on house portraits, favourite view and book illustration
